2 league goals... both penalties... The goals will come from the signing that is funded by the Carling Cup fixture at Anfield

I really hope I'm wrong, but the news of a defender being targeted suggests to me that Hinton's losing his battle against the tendonitis in his knees which can end a career at his age.

What would you prefer him to do; sign any old s*** striker to keep you happy, or try to bring in a player we actually want?

We already have strikers, they just happen to be bereft of goals at the moment..

Well, before the game Cardoza said, 'Defiantly one, maybe two'. If the definite is a CB then the striker is still a BIG maybe...

It is no suprise we ain't scoring goals.
McKay - a young lad still learning his trade.
Guinan - Veteran who has never been a goal machine.
Purcell - Had one good half a season for Darlo.
Herbert - Young lad plucked from obscurity.

You've got to score goals to win games, that has to be our priority at the moment, especially if Purcell is out for a prolonged period.
Guinan just isn't good enough he doesn't create anything and doesn't get on the end of anything and his movement is well, no existent.
Mckay, looks useful/very decent from time to time, but isn't a poacher yet and looks a fair way of being able to get 15-20 goals a season.
Herbert, started so well, went majorly off the boil after his injury, but in my opinion has looked decent this season and at least provides a threat with his pace, something which cannot be said of Guinan. But I reckon he may be worth a start sooner rather than latter, becuase lets face it, chipping balls into Guinan's feet/chest/head just is not working and will not work when he wins approximately sod all in the air. Harris came on and did more by just jumping enthusiastically for 5 minutes than Guinan did in however long he was wasting time on the pitch.
I genuinally now beleive that starting Harris/Herbert up front could be no worse than having Guinan upfront on his own.

I don't think it is Guinans fault though, he isn't the type of player to be played as the lone man up front and the focal point of the team.

Fair point and one I personally agree with. But then I would ask what sort of player is he? Becuase he sure as hell aint going to run in behind, and he doesn't striker me as a "poacher" and yet his control and strength aren't good enough for someone who plays with his back to goal the majority of the time. I'v said before and will say again I just don't see what he adds as an attacking force to us and I can't think of any tatics that would improve that. Its not like with Herbert were you could say balls into feet are no good, you need to put it in behind for him to use his pace, or vice-versa with Bayo last year. Balls in behind are no good to Guinan, yet neither are balls in the air, or even balls into feet. He looked bad when upfront on his own, but didn't look any better when we went 2 up front, mind you neither did Mckay today.

Our goals scored this season have been strange, a fluke first goal against Brighton, two penalties and the three against Reading came from a mistake by the keeper (twice) and a deflected cross/shot. In fact the only "proper" constructed goal was the McKay header against Brighton, not much to show for 6 matches. It is our main area of concern but Sammo is right, we also need cover in central defence for if Beckwith or Holt were injured or suspended, just who do we turn to (with any confidence)?

That would be worth the entrance fee just for the pure comedy.

Well I would rather have a good laugh watching those two, than have a cry watching Guinan try and win headers.
