Just put radio 5 on, first thing I heard was League 2 Northampton Town, albeit in an item about the demise of Liverpool FC. There is no doubt that we have captured the attention of the footballing world and rightly so, results like that of Wednesday night only come round once or twice in a generation. To win at Anfield where others (including most Premier teams) still fear to tread is a feather in anybody’s cap, let alone little old Northampton Town. It’s been great basking in the limelight for 48 hours, we deserve it but there is a downside and that is an awful lot of people will be looking out for our result on Saturday against Bradford and we don’t want to come crashing back down to earth with a bump. I’m sure Shrewsbury fans can hardly believe it after watching us last week, I’m equally sure Bradford fans will be wondering just how good we are. Oh how they’d like to be the first to take the scalp of the conquerors of Liverpool. It’s vital therefore that our historic victory becomes the catalyst for a rise up the table, by the time we play our next round match we don’t want to be hearing about 17th placed Northampton, we want to hear about promotion chasing Northampton. We can’t fall back now, we mustn’t let the exertions of the week become an excuse for a lacklustre performance on Saturday. Sammo has got to get this right, these players were good enough to win at Anfield, they must be sent out believing that they are good enough to beat Bradford (and Chesterfield). No excuses, we’ve got to kick on. On Saturday every goal at Sixfields will bring up a mention in the media about “the side that beat Liverpool”, the last thing we need now is to play poorly, lose and become regarded as just a flash in the pan. By kick-off Saturday we will know who our next opponents are in the cup, by full-time we will know if that’s all we’ve got to look forward to this season.
Come on the Cobblers!

Totally agree, there is an old saying that you are as only as good as your last game as well so lose on saturday and we will all be doom and gloom again.
Win however and this euphoric feeling will last all weekend and well into Tuesday.

Big game tomorrow, 3 points could really help kick us on, lets hope they have the energy left. Wednesday could turn our season around....

Tomorrow is as much about desire as the 120 minutes on Wednesday were.

I fear for us tomorrow. We put in so much effort, both physically and mentally, on Wednesday night that i can't help thinking we won't have the legs to see us through. If we do lose then i certainly won't be booing the team off!

You know when I have a good round of golf I can't wait to get back out there again. Surely they should be champing at the bit, tiredness will only be a problem if you let it be.

Well said Marvo (did i really just say that?)
For a long time people will bring up how we beat Liverpool and we need to make sure we carry this over. Games like Liverpool and Reading, where we defended solidly and attacked with pace and flair, that needs to be taken into the league because on the evidence i've seen, it hasnt. A good draw Saturday and the players will receive a massive boost

I agree with Marvo, we have momentum with us now and should play with no fear. The players and supporters will still be buzzing from the last match and tiredness really shouldn't be an issue. Bring it on!

I really hope it happens but, they are league 2 players for a reason. Consistency is a major factor as to why lower league players fail to play at a higher level. Please prove me wrong tomorrow and Tuesday boys.

Bare in mind saturday will be a totally different game of League Two hustle bustle football, the luxury of players standing off of their opponent will go out of the window on saturday.

Top post Marvo, I fully agree with you, though I fully expect a tired performance too if I'm honest.
Problem is we won't be able to hear the fcuking thing..
Liverpool's PA system was surprisingly poor too

Hopefully the lads will be bouyed by the result and go on to achieve this season but perhaps this game will come soon. There's no doubt that they'll be some tired players out there.
I wonder if the draw might have an effect to. If we draw Man U or Arsenal, Sammo will do well to keep them focused on Bradford.
On a more postive light I (and I know i'm probably in a massive minority) that saw some positives from the Shrewsbury game too. At times we passed the ball well but without any delivery. We obviously improved a lot on Wednesday but if we keep passing the ball as well as we can then perhaps we will climb the league.

Is Hall able to play? Davis has been absolutely supreme, but it sounded like he was barely standing up at extra time.
It massively depends who scores first. Confidence seems to be affecting team more than most, which makes sense considering the age of the squad. Remember the Southend game? A goal somehow transforms the team from being unable to pass 5 feet in a straight line, to suddenly being able to take on defenders, turn in and out, and pop a pin-point cross on to a strikers head with ease.

Let's hope it's not a case of "After the Lord Mayor's Show...."
It is imperative that we kick start our league campaign. there are plenty of examples of a great cup run masking an eventual league disaster, Coventry City springs to mind.
The players will need to be totally focused.....because just before kick off we will know our next Cup Opponents!

Sammo has just achieved one of the best results in our history, temporaily silencing his critics (myself included) in the the process.
I hope he has time to reflect on the vast disparity between our performances against Brighton, Reading and Liverpool and our disappointing start to the league. Is it down to extra motivation? Or is it really about being allowed more space? If so, can we find strategies to create more space against league two opposition e.g. playing with genuine wingers and overlapping fullbacks? These are the type of questions I hope he is asking himself.

top post marvo and i completely agree!
we have to play our part as well and raise the atmosphere levels. If we get fully behind the team tomorrow and make a lot of noise, either singing or just cheering (whatever floats your boat), then i'm sure any tiredness in the players will be but to the back of their minds.
UP THE COBBLERS!!

I see Brentford lost tonight, they're already back in the League 1 mire facing relegation straight in the face. I hope we can keep our fire glowing for a bit longer yet.

Was going to make the same point about confidence and self belief.
